‘Final Destination’ Gets a Remake With ‘Saw’ Writers

AceShowbiz -Buckle up for another deadly trip with “Final Destination“! New Line is making a new installment of one of its hit franchises and has tapped Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to write the script, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

Melton and Dunstan are no stranger to the horror genre, having been working on Lionsgate’s scary movie franchise, “Saw”. The winners of “Project Greenlight” season 3 wrote “Saw IV“, “Saw V“, “Saw VI” and “Saw 3D“, which together accumulated nearly $500 million worldwide for Lionsgate.

Plot details of the upcoming sixth “Final Destination” movie are still kept under wraps, but the project is described as a re-imagining of the franchise. The previous five movies share the same core storyline, which is a small group of people escaping impending death when one individual has a sudden premonition and warns them that they will all die in a terrible mass-casualty accident. But Death, as the main antagonist, continues to pursue them and manifests itself in bizarre accidents until the survivors are killed one by one.

No director is announced yet, and there are no words either on who will star in the “Final Destination Reboot“. Devon Sawa led the first installment, which was directed by James Wong. Each film usually features different cast ensemble as most of the characters don’t survive Death’s plan.

The 2000 movie raked in $112 million worldwide on only a $23 million budget. The next four movies were released in 2003, 2006, 2009 and 2011. All five movies grossed $665 million worldwide.

New Line has been consistently bringing horror movies, with its latest successful one being “It“, an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel. The company is also the force that brings “The Conjuring” franchise as well as its “Annabelle” spin-off film series.
