EastEnders fans delighted as very familiar face pops up as Ruby’s barrister

EastEnders fans spotted a familiar face turn up to defend Ruby Allen during the character’s rape trial.

The dramatic trial kicked off this week as Ruby (Louisa Lytton) faced her two rapists in court for the first day of court.

On Monday night, Ruby was introduced to her barrister for the first time.

Fans rushed to social media after they realised they recognised the actor, Timothy Bentinick.

It turns out Tim has a long-running role as David Archer in soap The Archers.

One viewer wrote: “Is The CPS barrister a graduate of Ambreidge Chambers?”

While a second tweeted: “Just flicked to BBC1 and David Archer is a barrister in Eastenders!”

The actor has played the role since 1982, and remains a regular figure in the popular radio drama.

The star has also featured in a number of other popular TV shows.

The actor, 65, previously appeared in the likes of The Thick of It and Silent Witness.

He’s also previously appeared in another episode of EastEnders back in 2013, but this time as a completely new character.

Timothy played Norman Pike in three episodes over the course of the year, who gave legal advice to Janine Butcher’s (Charlie Brooks) estranged husband Michael Moon (Steve Shepherd).

EastEnders continues Tuesday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
