Coronation Street’s James Burrows signs contract extension to stay on the cobbles as bosses promise him ‘juicy storylines’ before Kym Marsh’s exit

CORONATION Street’s James Burrows has signed a contract extension for the soap after bosses promises him a series of "juicy storylines".

The actor, who plays Dr. Ali Neeson on the soap, has been offered the extended contract by bosses after he recently revealed that he had considered quitting the Cobbles.

The contract extension will see James remain on the cobbles up until at least Christmas ensuring he will stay on the show with on screen mum Michelle Connor, played by Kym Marsh, before she leaves later this year.

A Corrie insider said: "James Burrows aka Dr. Ali is going to be sticking around for a while yet.

“Corrie bosses reckon James is too much of a good talent to lose. His character is going to be part of some really juicy plots coming up too.

“We're sure viewers will be pleased to hear the news as he has become quite the fan favourite since his arrival in early 2018."

The actor, who is also known for his roles in TV shows including Skins and Mount Pleasant, is said to be taking a few weeks break while his partner Sophie Coates prepares to give birth to the couple's first child in late spring.

Just last month he admitted: "I won't stay for years. There are other roles I'd like to do."

James previously took some time off the soap last year to spend some time with his family, but returned in December.

Earlier this year, his co-star Kym announced she was quitting the soap after 13 years.

It’s not yet clear exactly what her exit storyline will entail, but she looks unlikely to be killed off as she previously suggested it was more of a break than a final goodbye.

She told Loose Women “I've said I'm taking a break, so yeah. I think it's just a break for me. Being there for 13 years without taking anytime away…"

"It has flown by and I've had such a wonderful time on that show. I've learnt so much and I've made friends for life.

"But it's time for me to take a little break. I just want to scratch a few itches."
