Coronation Street’s Connie Hyde quits as Gina Seddon after two years as machinist is left fighting for her life in factory collapse

CORONATION Street’s Connie Hyde is quitting the ITV soap as Underworld machinist Gina Seddon.

The Sun Online can reveal that viewers will see Gina hospitalised after being crushed in the factory roof collapse this week as she's written out of the soap.

However, Gina will walk away with her life and the door will be left open for her return.

A source said: "Connie is still very much part of the Corrie family but Gina’s time on the street has come to a natural end – for now."

They continued: "The character could return, but it won’t be as a permanent fixture and Gina won't be living on the cobbles anymore.

"She is obviously the second high profile exit this year after Bhavna Limbachia as the soap tries to freshen up the Street."

Gina arrived on the cobbles in March 2017 and has been a constant thorn in her sister Sally Metcalfe's side.

It was revealed that she had been trolling her online online, and she then campaigned against Sally when she was caged for crimes she didn't commit.

She became infatuated with Sally's husband Tim and made a play for him, with Sally finally slapping Gina at Christmas.

Gina was previously played by Julie Foy from 1988-1989.

She left the street when she wed a long-distance lorry driver and moved to Newcastle.

Connie was best known for playing PC Cathy Bradford in The Bill from 2002 to 2004 before joining the cobbles.

She also had parts as DC Janet Miller in City Central and Catherine Heywood in Wing and a Prayer.
