Where is Black Summer set?
Black Summer is set in the early days of a zombie apocalypse.
The series follows Rose (played by Jaime King) as she tries to find her daughter in amongst the terrifying surroundings.
The survivors of the zombie apocalypse are trying to reach a military evacuation site.
However, the zombies are also trying to sabotage their journey to safety.
Speaking at Comic-Con in 2018, showrunner Karl Schaefer explained the setting of Black Summer.
He revealed the show is set four months into a zombie apocalypse, in the height of summer.
In the summer alone, 95 percent of the population died.
He went on to describe Black Summer as “super scary and intense.”
HOW MANY EPISODES ARE IN BLACK SUMMER?
Black Summer is a prequel to Z Nation and is set in the same universe as the horror series.
Z Nation was set three years into a zombie apocalypse whereas Black Summer follows the very beginnings.
The fifth and final season of Z Nation concluded in December 2018 on Syfy.
Schaefer said: “Black Summer is before the apocalypse got weird and was just scary.”
No character from Z Nation appears in Black Summer on Netflix.
Speaking to Mandy News about Black Summer, producer and director Jodi Linstock said: “It’s interesting, in the series that I’m producing for Netflix, Black Summer, we’ve taken a completely different approach in that it’s much more like a chapter in a book.
“You don’t necessarily do the cliffhangers on a commercial break – it’s keeping you going so that you’ve got to binge it.
“Black Summer in its inception was originally thought of as a spin off of Z Nation but it’s not exactly.
“Black Summer is referred to in Z Nation as the summer where everything went to hell, so that is where Black Summer picks up.”

Where is Black Sumer filmed?
Black Summer was filmed in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Calgary is Alberta’s largest city and was home to the 1988 Winter Olympic Games.
Filming began in July 2018 and wrapped up in September 2018.
Notable filming locations include the Calgary Tower and Queen Elizabeth School.
The River Avenue Bridge over the Bow River in Cochrane features in episode two of Black Summer.
The same bridge was used to films several scenes in Sky Atlantic’s Tinstar.
WHO IS IN THE CAST OF BLACK SUMMER?
The rural towns of Irricana and Bieseker were also used as filming locations for Black Summer.
According to Three Hills Capital, Irricana was used to film some scenes where the zombies were located and Bieseker was home to a car chase.
During filming, King was hospitalised of three days after an injury she received on set filming the finale.
The actress wrote in a lengthy Instagram post that she had suffered “lots of broken and torn things.”
On the other hand, Z Nation was mainly filmed in Spokane, Washington DC.
