'Avengers: Endgame': What's Next for Chris Hemsworth?

Chris Hemsworth is an actor best known for his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The role of God of Thunder is played opposite Tom Hiddleston as Loki, the God of Mischief. Hemsworth is also fairly well known for playing the huntsman in the 2012 film, Snow White and the Huntsman.

Fans everywhere have fallen in love with Hemsworth’s portrayal of Thor. They’ve watched him since 2011, but, unfortunately, Thor’s time is coming to an end. Chris Hemsworth (along with several other key Marvel characters) has announced that he will be retiring from his role as Thor in the MCU and will be moving on to other things. He has even hinted that he may give up acting altogether in the somewhat near future – although this hasn’t been confirmed.

But now that he’s giving up his most iconic role, what does the future hold for the Australian actor? What’s next for Chris Hemsworth? Here’s what we know.

While fans everywhere are sad that Chris Hemsworth is retiring as Thor, they will get one last chance to see him reprise the role. Avengers: Endgame will be released to theaters on April 26, 2019. In this fourth franchise movie, the remaining members of the Avengers must band together to defeat Thanos and undo his unraveling of the universe that rendered half of humanity out of existence.

Many will be sad to know that Chris Hemsworth is not the only actor retiring his Marvel role after Avengers: Endgame. This will also be the last movie for Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye). Other roles (such as Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury) are still up in the air.

Yes, there is a new Men in Black movie coming out, and Chris Hemsworth will be starring in it alongside Tessa Thompson and Liam Neeson. The film will be released to theaters this summer, on June 14. When it does, Men in Black: International will be the first in the franchise seen by this current generation. It’s predecessor, Men in Black III, was released seven years ago in 2012.

According to IMDB, the “men in black have always protected the earth” but now they must face their biggest threat yet. What could possibly be that bad? “A mole in the Men in Black organization.” Hemsworth has quite the legacy to live up to, with the original films starring the iconic actor, Will Smith. We’re sure that Chris Hemsworth is up to the task, although he will most certainly bring a different approach to the film franchise series than his predecessor.

‘Dhaka’ (2019)

This film is about an Indian businessman whose son has been kidnapped. To help get him back, the man hires a mercenary. While the film has no definitive release date or complete casting list yet, Chris Hemsworth has been confirmed in one of the leading roles of Dhaka.

A Netflix original movie, Dhaka will show Hemsworth in the role of mercenary Tyler Rake. The character is “a broken man with nothing to lose, harboring a death wish that makes an already deadly mission near impossible.”

This film was just announced, so there’s no word on when it’ll hit theaters – but this promises to be quite the fitting role for Chris Hemsworth. The film will tell the story of wrestler Hulk Hogan (born Terry Bollea), with Hemsworth in the title role. No other casting details have been confirmed yet, but fans can continue to watch for them in the coming year.
