Apple TV+ Drops the First Teaser for The Morning Show

This morning, Apple TV+ dropped the first teaser for its highly-anticipated series The Morning Show, starring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Steve Carell. The show, which will premiere this fall, follows the behind-the-scenes drama of a fictional morning TV program. Carell plays a veteran anchor who’s described as “bold and dynamic” but is nevertheless struggling in a shifting media landscape. Witherspoon has said the show is told primarily from the perspective of two “ambitious female characters,” played by herself and Aniston, whose experiences “pull back the curtain on the power dynamic between men and women.”

The teaser features vignettes from the offices of the fictional Morning Show—posters of Carell and Aniston as co-anchors, of their dressing rooms, and the show’s control room—as dialogue about journalism, integrity, power conflicts, and “the person behind the facade” play over top in voiceover. It closes with the lights going up on the anchor chair as Witherspoon’s character says, “I think they want to trust that the person that is telling them the truth about the world is an honest person.”

CNN’s Brian Stelter, who wrote the 2013 book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV, consulted on the series. Aniston and Witherspoon also executive-produced the drama. Back in March, they took the stage alongside Carell at Apple’s preview event to debut Apple TV+, the company’s high-profile entry into the streaming television market this fall, which includes a star-studded slate of original shows, miniseries, movies, and documentaries involving the likes of Brie Larson, Chris Evans, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Jennifer Garner, Kevin Durant, Kumail Nanjiani, Oprah, Ronald D. Moore, and Sofia Coppola. Apple has been tight-lipped about exactly when The Morning Show and other projects will be dropping, and this teaser offers the first public look at one of the service’s tentpole shows.
