A Corrie family is hit with tragic death news as an exit airs

A Coronation Street family is set to be struck by bad news and it leads to a big decision – but amid other family troubles can they cope? Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) learns that his uncle is dying and he is upset and knows he should travel to India to spend time with him and look after him before he dies.

But at the same time, he is having behavioural issues with rebellious teenager Asha, who gives him attitude when he refuses to let her attend a party. Defying him completely, she gets Aadi to cover for her while she sneaks out and Dev is at a loss and furious when he finds out that she has gone behind his back.

As he rages, Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) suggests that he takes the twins to India with him as it could be good for them – and without Dev around there’s every chance that Asha could continue a downward behavioural spiral.

Dev agrees and he and Mary share an emotional goodbye as they head away for their trip.

But ardent Dev fans (we count ourselves among you, don’t worry) you needn’t fear as actor Jimmi is just taking a break from the role for a few months and will return later in the year.

So don’t be too dev-astated when Mary waves him off.

Mary also has other goodbyes to attend to as Norris Cole (Malcolm Hebden) has his goodbye drinks in the Rovers as he prepares to head off to Edinburgh. Is poor Mary going to have any pals left in Weatherfield?

Let’s hope that both Dev and Norris are back soon – in the meantime, she always has her unique bond with Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) to fall back on.

If you can count that as a cheerful thought…

One to watch: Wednesday 5th June at 8:30pm on ITV.
