WWE superstar John Cena confirmed to star in Fast and Furious 9 as he follows in The Rock's footsteps

WWE legend John Cena is joining the cast of Fast and Furious 9 – as confirmed by the Hollywood blockbuster's star Vin Diesel.

The American is following in the footsteps of former fellow wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, 46, who starred in the eight instalment.

In fact, Cena, 41, is set to replace Johnson in Universal's hit street racing production amid The Rock's feud with Diesel.

The Baywatch and Jumanji star will instead headline spin-off series Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.

Diesel has revealed the introduction of the Leader of the Cenation to the ninth Furious sequel in an Instagram post.

Dressed as his iconic character Dominic Torreto, he starts his soliloquy with thoughts on the franchise.

The actor then says that late Paul Walker – the former Furious star who died in a car accident in 2013 – sends him "the right people" to push the series forward.

Diesel calls them "soldiers for the fight for truth" before panning the camera over to Cena.

The wrestler, donning a blue suit and a bright yellow tie, doesn't say anything, but sends a cheeky smile to the camera.

He then pulls off his signature "U Can't See Me" gesture before Diesel ends the video, saying: "All love, always."
