Watford have £7m transfer bid for Reims attacker Remi Oudin – dubbed new Van Persie – rejected

WATFORD’S £7million bid for Remi Oudin has been rejected.

The Hornets and Newcastle have been tracking the Reims attacker dubbed the “next Robin van Persie”.

Oudin, 22, has enjoyed an excellent season, scoring ten goals as Reims finished ninth in Ligue 1.

The French club's top brass know their 6ft 1ins striker is keen to try his luck in the Premier League and hope to spark a bidding war for his signature.

Reims will look for at least £10m for a Frenchman who came through the club academy.

Toon boss Rafa Benitez is looking to add to his attacking options next term.

Benitez also wants Newcastle owner Mike Ashley to wrap up a permanent deal for striker Salomon Rondon, 29, who impressed on loan from West Brom.

Wolves and West Ham are also eyeing the big frontman who proved a hit on Tyneside with 12 goals.

And while they are pushing to secure Rondon, Newcastle have been locked in talks with Reims but are yet to table a bid.

But Watford and The Toon face opposition from Nice and Fiorentina for Oudin this summer.

Nice, who finished eighth in Ligue 1, want to replace Allan Saint-Maximin, who is quitting the French Riviera.

And Fiorentina want to overhaul the squad after a nightmare season where Vincenzo Montella’s side will finish just above the Serie A relegation zone.
