Tyson Fury eyeing 'Rocky Balboa' style fight if Joshua and Wilder talks fall through

After his thrilling draw with Deontay Wilder back at the start of December, all the talk is over who the Gypsy King will fight next.

Top of the list is another shot at Wilder's WBC title in a rematch. Many believe Fury was "robbed" in their first meeting.

There is also clamour for there to be a heavyweight Battle of Britain with Fury challenging Anthony Joshua for the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO world titles.

But the 30-year-old from Wythenshawe has a back-up plan – and it involves offering another boxer the chance to become the "Lineal Champion".

In an interview with MTK Global, Fury said: "We’re just trying to get the rematch with Wilder. If Wilder don’t want it, then that’s it really.

“What I’m thinking about doing is what Rocky did in the Rocky movie, just getting some random person who’s never gonna get a chance at anything and giving him a shot at the ‘lineal’ heavyweight championship of the world.

“Making it like – ‘The champ gives the random person a shot.’

“Just to give somebody who’s never gonna get a shot at anything a shot at glory, just like Apollo [Creed] did with Rocky.

“Apart from the Wilder and the Joshua fight, there’s no other fights out there for me really.”

HEARN'S OFFER FOR JOSHUA VS WILDER DERISORY – WARREN

FRANK WARREN has denied that Eddie Hearn offered a 60-40 split for Anthony Joshua to fight Tyson Fury in April.

The Gypsy King's promoter says the real offer he received was "derisory" and insisted the fight wouldn't happen without a 50-50 split.

Unified heavyweight world champion Joshua, 29, is pencilled in to defend his WBA, IBF and WBO titles on April 13 at Wembley – though an opponent is yet to be finalised.

Hearn recently revealed he has sent offers to WBC king Deontay Wilder, former Joshua opponent Dillian Whyte, and the Gypsy King Fury.

In ‘Rocky,’ heavyweight champion Apollo Creed was supposed to have a a title defence in Philadelphia, but the scheduled opponent pulled out with injury.

Desperate to make a successful title defence, he opts to give a local club fighter – Rocky Balboa – the shot, mainly because he liked his nickname ‘The Italian Stallion.’

Fury added: “[It would] just be some random person, maybe he’s gonna be unbeaten.

“Hopefully Italian – an ‘Italian Stallion’ – who knows?”
