Tottenham to appeal Son's red at Bournemouth after ace lashed out at Lerma

FA disciplinary beaks expect Spurs to mount a two-pronged appeal against Heung-min Son’s red card at Bournemouth.

The normally-calm Korean lost his head in the shock defeat at the Vitality Stadium.

Son, who had been targeted by home midfielder Jefferson Lerma, reacted after being caught by the Colombian.

The Spurs man jumped to his feet and pushed Lerma to the ground, with referee Craig Pawson instantly showing him a red card.

That will bring Son a three-match ban, starting in Sunday’s final Prem game of the season against Everton and then completed by the opening two matches of next term.

But Wembley beaks are on standby for Spurs to launch two separate appeals on Son’s behalf.

Spurs are thought to be considering making a claim for wrongful dismissal, with the potential argument that Son merely pushed Lerma rather than being guilty of violent conduct.

Former England caretaker boss Stuart Pearce, speaking on Sky Sports, said: "If Son has just shoved him in the chest, it should be a yellow card."

Tottenham’s other avenue would be to then argue that the three-match ban Son faces is an “excessive punishment” for his action.

Video evidence could be used to show that the Korean was wound up by a series of alleged incidents perpetrated by the Bournemouth man.

He also appears to have punched Son in the back in the incident which saw him respond.

Spurs have until 1pm tomorrow to lodge notice of any appeal to the FA, and a further 24 hours to compile their evidence.

Under FA regulations, there would be no extra punishment for Son if the appeal failed, making it a free shot for the Korean.
