The heartbreaking moment Spurs hero Son discovers on live TV he is suspended for semi against Ajax during Ivanovic-style interview

HUENG-MIN SON has suffered to a similar fate as Branislav Ivanovic in 2012 as he discovered on live TV he would miss the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals against Ajax in a post-match interview.

The South Korean forward saw a yellow card for a foul on Kevin de Bruyne in yesterday's 4-3 loss to Manchester City, triggering a one-game ban.

Son cancelled out Raheem Sterling's effort and bagged a quick double to give Spurs advantage at the Etihad.

And Fernando Llorente's contentious strike eventually fired Tottenham to the Champions League semi-finals Mauricio Pochettino's men have been dreaming of.

But Son, one of the main architects of the success, will miss the first leg of the tie in London due to accumulation of yellow cards.

The forward was cautioned for tugging De Bruyne's shirt just after half-time, resulting in a third warning this season.

And he did not know he would be banned from the game until a German journalist made him aware of it in a post-match interview.

Heartbroken Son just replied: "I didn't know!".

Had he finished the game without being booked, his yellow cards would have been wiped out after quarter-final stage.

But the unlucky Spurs star suffered to a similar fate as Ivanovic in 2012.

Former Chelsea's defender learnt he would sit out the Champions League final against Bayern Munich from Geoff Shreeves after the game.

The Blues then went onto winning the title for the first time in their history.
