Solskjaer’s Man Utd tactical revolution revealed by Rashford’s goal against Spurs

And it is not good news for £75million striker Romelu Lukaku.

The Red Devils earned their sixth straight win under the Norwegian with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Wembley on Sunday.

Having previously disposed of strugglers Cardiff, Huddersfield, Bournemouth and Newcastle and Championship Reading in the FA Cup, Solskjaer faced the first real test of his credentials against Spurs.

But Marcus Rashford’s strike proved enough for United to close the gap on the top four to six points and also give fans the perfect example of how their interim manager is training them to play.

Spurs defender Kieran Trippier’s pass was intercepted by Jesse Lingard, who then instantly knocked the ball down towards Paul Pogba.

The French midfielder, a rejuvenated figure since Jose Mourinho’s exit, then struck a pass into the path of Rashford, who used his lightning quick pace to race clear down the right of the area and finish past goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

And the strike will have given Solskjaer extra cause to celebrate after getting his men to practice to move.

TalkSPORT’s Jim White said earlier this week: “The Marcus Rashford goal came straight off the training pitch.

“They’ve been hitting Rashford on the diagonal over and over and over again in practice. This is what I hear. That suggests Ole prefers Rashford to the mobility of Lukaku.”

Rashford certainly provides a different option to the powerhouse of Lukaku.

The England international, who has repaid Solskjaer’s faith with four goals in six appearances, uses his pace to stretch defences as the frontman.

That not only allows him to capitalise on his speed and the pockets of space afforded to him, it opens up gaps for his team-mates to get forward themselves.

Lukaku, however, is known to remain more direct and is often found lurking centrally within the perimeter of the posts, compared to his younger colleague who constantly works the channels.

And that appears to be why Rashford is being preferred to the Belgian star, and it does not look like it is going to change any time soon.

With Pogba continuing to practice lining them up for the 21-year-old, few would bet against Solskjaer’s tactics not leading to a seventh straight win when Brighton head to Old Trafford on Saturday.

Manchester United join race for Roma star

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly joined the race for Roma star Cengiz Under.

ESPN claims Old Trafford chiefs are lining up a summer bid for the Turkish winger, who joined Roma for £12million from Basaksehir in 2017.

It’s said that United have been impressed by his performances in the Italian capital.

And they are ready to battle Arsenal, Tottenham and Bayern Munich for Under’s coveted signature.
