Solskjaer says Lukaku is star of training ground and still a massive part of Man Utd plans

The Manchester United caretaker boss wants the Belgian, 25, to take his chances when they come, saying he scores more than anyone at Carrington.

Lukaku has competition from Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata and Alexis Sanchez, but remains hopeful of a run of games.

Solskjaer revealed: "I used to be one of four strikers when we played with two. Now we have six forwards and we play with three.

"There are enough games. It is about taking your chances when you get them.

"No-one is scoring as many as Romelu in training."

United paid £75million for Lukaku in 2016, but the ex-Everton ace has played just 74 minutes of Solskjaer's first six games in charge.

Rashford has more often than not been tasked with leading the line – and has scored in three games in a row for the first time in his career as he continues to thrive post-Jose Mourinho.

Lukaku missed two games over Christmas for personal reasons – revealed this week to be for the birth of his son, Romeo, in America.

Man United play later today against Brighton, with Lukaku hoping for chance to impress his new boss.
