Nottingham Forest legend Des Walker's son makes first start – against dad's ex-club

HIS dad might have been a Nottingham Forest legend but Lewis Walker made his first professional start by lining up against them.

The 20-year-old, son of former Forest and England star Des Walker, ran out for QPR against the Reds in their Championship clash on Saturday.

And bragging rights went to Walker Sr. after Forest edged to a 1-0 victory at Loftus Road to make it three defeats in a row for QPR.

Lewis was making his first start for the Hoops against Forest almost 15 years after his dad ran out for his last competitive appearance for them.

Des enjoyed a glittering 10-year career over two spells at the City Ground, which included two League Cup triumphs in 1989 and 1990.

He was also a regular for his country, winning 59 England caps between 1988-1993 when he earned a move to Serie A with Sampdoria.

Since retiring in 2004, Des has moved into coaching and currently heads up the youth academy of Forest’s bitter rivals Derby County.

It was there his son Lewis started his career after moving to Pride Park in January 2016. He was released ahead of the 2018-19 season before being picked up by QPR.

After a spell with the Under-23s, Lewis has found himself promoted to the first team following the sacking of Steve McClaren in April.

He made his debut off the bench with seven minutes left during QPR’s dominant 4-0 victory over Swansea earlier this month.

Next up for QPR are another of Des Walker’s former clubs – Sheffield Wednesday. Lewis is sure to be keen for another chance to get one over on his dad.
