Mike Francesa goes off on ‘truth’ of his Michael Kay, Craig Carton anger

Mike Francesa opened by railing about the “tremendous amount of inaccuracies” described in the tale of his outburst at the WFAN studios.

He proceeded to confirm the story.

Hours after The Post’s Andrew Marchand reported Monday the WFAN icon recently dressed down Entercom regional president Susan Larkin and FAN VP Mark Chernoff over ESPN’s “The Michael Kay Show” scoring a post-sentencing Craig Carton interview, Francesa wanted the audience to hear “the truth”: that he dressed down executives.

“I don’t raise my voice around here very often,” Francesa said when a caller brought it up. “I did at the bosses here over the fact, first of all, that I felt they were silly to go to court and support Craig and then have Craig go to a competitor when he had just been given support to them. And that’s what I said to them, I said you got played.”

Last Monday’s interview came as Kay was threatening Francesa’s ratings throne — which he (sort of) usurped, winning a 5.9-5.5 winter book that Francesa and WFAN dispute by factoring in streaming numbers. Kay’s streaming is included in ESPN’s initial number, while Francesa’s is not. With streaming, Francesa noses ahead, 6.2-5.9.

According to Francesa, Entercom suits approached him with the offer for the Carton interview. And according to him, those suits told Francesa he was their first choice for the tell-all of the former “Boomer & Carton” voice. Boomer Esiason also said he rejected Entercom’s offer, and Francesa said Esiason truly had first crack.

Adding to the anger was “Boomer & Gio” not sharing his fury that this radio-gold interview was going to Francesa’s rival.

“The morning show tweeted on their website they didn’t feel Carton has stabbed them in the back. And I thought that was absurd,” Francesa said.

Francesa refused to lose the crown, stating that Kay’s show has had its “rear ends kicked for 20 straight years,” saying ESPN Radio is “lying” by using the measuring Nielsen Audio ratings without streaming.

“They didn’t win, they lost,” Francesa said. “If I lost, honestly, I would tell you I lost and move on. I feel utter pity for them that they would go to this length when they didn’t win. I feel sad for them, I really do.”

There was a lot of pitying going on.

“Mike, you’ve had an iconic career and you’re embarrassing yourself,” Kay said on his show. “People in the industry are laughing at you.

“We celebrated,” Kay added. “We had cake. We had a little Champagne and we laughed, because, finally, the peashooters won. You can spin it whatever way you want. The industry knows you lost the book.”
