Mike Dean cracks fans up again as he flamboyantly points to penalty spot for Man City against Chelsea

Refs hate divers but experienced Dean looked something of a diva himself, wowing social media by awarding Manchester City a penalty with a disco-style pose and point.

Sergio Aguero tucked the spot-kick home to complete a record-equalling 11th Premier League hat-trick as City returned to the top with a 6-0 win.

But it was the Dancing Dean who caught the eye of some armchair observers.

Cesar Azpilicueta lunged in on Raheem Sterling – sending Dean back to the future for signalling penalties with a classic gesture straight from 1970s' dance floors.

Fans tweeted their appreciation, including "Once seen this can't be forgotten."

But others thought it was more of a Tragedy and worked themselves up into a Sunday Night Fever.

Such caustic comments included: "Three's something terribly terribly wrong with that man" and "He's such a clown".

Dean also caused a stir last month when supporters noted the way he booked Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli by raising a yellow card halfway down his fingers rather than with his fingertips.

And in that 1-0 Wembley win for Manchester United the 50-year-old was even accused of looking like he was "goose Stepping past Paul Pogba".

Twitter responses included: "Sassy Dean" and "Gotta love Mike Dean".

And today he rounded off his Etihad performance with a little joke that might have mildly amused everyone except Chelsea – whose top four hopes are now barely Stayin' Alive.

As Aguero went to get the match-ball as his reward for a treble, Dean hid it behind his back and under his shirt.

He whipped it out at the last minute to give it to the beaming Argentinian

The 30-year-old striker is now joint top with Alan Shearer for Prem hat-tricks and frontrunning level with Liverpool's Mo Salah this season on 17 top-flight goals.

And after fending off Gabriel Jesus to maintain his place as City's main man up front, Aguero looks as hungry as ever in front of goal.
