Matic says Man Utd can win Premier League title next season after climbing into top four with Fulham win

Nemanja Matic told reporters that the form United have found under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could see them challenging for the Premier League title again next season.

The midfielder said: "To win the league you need to win the games like we did in the last seven, eight games… but we have to continue, we have to continue like this. We have to learn always, and this is the way to play.

"This is the way to fight, so if we play like this for the next season then we will be one of the teams who is going to fight for the title."

The 3-0 victory at Fulham yesterday put United back into the top four of the Premier League – something that Jose Mourinho had said would take ‘a miracle’ while he was in charge of the club.

A brace from Paul Pogba and a spectacular goal from Anthony Martial sealed the points and sent United into a run of important fixtures in tremendous spirits.

Their sparkling run of form probably comes too late for them to mount a serious challenge to the top three this term, but they still have hopes of winning silverware.

The Red Devils face Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 this week, before taking on Chelsea in the FA Cup 5th round at Stamford Bridge a week later.

They were handed a boost in advance of the PSG match with the news that striker Edinson Cavani will definitely miss the game after suffering a thigh injury yesterday.

Matic, who won the Premier League twice as a Chelsea player, is in no doubt that the mood at Old Trafford has been significantly improved under Solskjaer.

He said of the Norwegian: “He's always positive. Of course, when we don't play well, of course he needs to shout a little bit.

"But he's the same – always positive. The same when I see him in the press conference, he's like this with us also in the changing room."
