Manchester United sacking Jose Mourinho before end of January will cost £24million

The Daily Record claims United’s beleaguered boss will walk away with an eye-watering sum should he be axed in the next 45 days.

Mourinho’s future is up the air after Sunday’s dismal 3-1 defeat to Premier League leaders Liverpool.

United are 19 points off top and 11 behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

They know face a huge battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

And it is believed Mourinho could be sacked sooner rather than later as club chiefs look to turn their fortune around.

However, the Portuguese tactician only signed a new contract last season.

And United will have to pay through the nose should they decide to pull the plug over the coming weeks.

The likes of Gary Neville believe it would be more prudent for the Red Devils to continue with Mourinho until the end of the campaign.

But even then, the Special One still stands to gain a healthy £18m, and United are set to be heavily out of pocket before they even consider approaching his replacement.
