Man Utd set to swap Lukaku for Icardi in incredible deal with Inter

The Serie A giants have been long-term admirers of Lukaku, who struggled to cut it at Old Trafford this season until recently.

The Belgian star, 25, has now scored four goals in his last two games after being given a shot under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thanks to an injury crisis.

But Inter are hoping to lure the former Chelsea man away from United by dangling sought-after Icardi in front of them.

Icardi, 26, hasn't played for the San Siro side for a month and has even been stripped of the captaincy amidst a contract row involving his wife – and agent – Wanda.

Despite the very public argument, Inter Milan are still hoping to recoup around £90million for Icardi this summer.

Chelsea are just one team interested in landed the Argentine, but United now appear to be favourites.

Lukaku joined United for £75m in the summer of 2017 but has failed to live up to the price-tag.

He could now be used to bring in Icardi – who has also attracted the attention of Real Madrid.

Los Blancos have struggled to replace Cristiano Ronaldo since his £99m move to Juventus last summer.

But their interest in Icardi may have cooled somewhat thanks to the emergence of Vinicius Jr in the Real first XI in recent weeks.

Wanda Nara was forced to deny her numerous controversial statements this season have put Madrid off a potential transfer.

She said: "That Mauro hasn't gone to Madrid because of me, as has been said in Spain, is false and we have a lot of respect for Real Madrid."

Serie A champions Juventus are another side interested in a summer swoop for Icardi.

But with Lukaku the prize, Inter may be willing to take a small financial hit in order to have a ready-made replacement lined-up and ready for 2019-20.
