Man Utd 'make contact' with Man City and Juventus target Tanguy Ndombele

The Lyon midfielder, 22, has been in fine form for his side this season and is expected to be the subject of plenty of interest come the end of the season.

It is understood United have spoken to Ndombele's people but not Lyon – and they are willing to go head to head with rivals Manchester City for the French international valued at £70million.

According to Le10 Sport, though, the two Manchester clubs are behind two Italian giants in the race for the central midfielder.

Juventus are keeping tabs on Ndombele, who has enjoyed a fine season in the Lyon midfield alongside fellow youngster Houssem Aouar.

The pair have generally been deployed as the two sitting midfielders behind playmaker Nabil Fekir.

They even managed to inflict a first league defeat of the season upon Paris Saint-Germain last weekend.

But Inter Milan are also believed to in a strong position in the race to sign Ndombele.

There has been interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid but neither side has made a formal approach, it is understood.

Ndombele only joined Lyon permanently in the summer after impressing on loan last term but signed an extension and improved deal in September to try and fend off interest.

Manchester City did make an approach but this was rejected and now Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas will do everything he can to either keep hold of his star or get the best deal.

Lyon beat Pep Guardiola's side in the Champions League earlier in the season and the Spanish manager was full of praise for Ndombele and his team-mate Aouar.

He said: "We talk a lot about Ndombele, but Aouar is also excellent. He's always very calm with the ball at his feet, with an excellent technical quality.

"Lyon really has a very good team. There are young people full of quality and the team is in place tactically. I think we can congratulate them."

Lyon ended up finishing second in Group F and now face Barcelona in the last 16.
