Man Utd and Arsenal set to be squeezed for extra £12m for Kostas Manolas as Roma come up with cunning transfer plot

The Greek international defender, 27, has emerged as one of the top targets for the Red Devils while attracting interest from elsewhere.

Manolas has a £31.5m release clause currently in his deal with the Serie A giants.

But Corriere dello Sport say discussions are underway between the club and the star’s representatives to either remove it completely or at least increase it to around £43.7m.

The ex-Olympiacos and AEK Athens is under contract at the Stadio Olimpico until June 2022.

But that has not stopped a host of European heavyweights from plotting a summer swoop.

United are well-known to be in the market for defensive recruits, and the Roma man is high up on their wanted list.

Prem rivals Arsenal are also keen, but they could be priced out of a move, especially if Giallorossi succeed in upping the release fee.

Manolas is also wanted by German outfit Bayern Munich and fellow Italian’s Juventus.

And it appears Roma’s director of sport Monchi is hoping to squeeze as much cash as possible out of potential bidders should he be unable to fend them off altogether.
