Luke Harper demands he is released from contract by WWE just hours before SmackDown Live

WWE star Luke Harper has become the latest to request his release from the company.

The 39-year-old former tag-team champion broke the news on Twitter last night just hours before SmackDown.

He posted a statement on social media which read: “As of this evening, I have requested a release from WWE.

“The past 6 years have been a simply, amazing journey around the world and back with lifelong friends and family.

"I am proud of it all and proud to say I shared the ring with my co workers.

“This decision, as difficult as it was, feels right for myself and WWE.

“My goal in the future is to continue to grow as a performer and person and continue to make my family proud.”

The ex-Wyatt Family member continued: “Thank you. From the top to the bottom of WWE.

“This decision, as difficult as it was, feels right for myself and WWE.

“Thank you to the fans for your undying support. Thank you everyone.”

Harper did not state whether his request had been accepted by WWE.

The veteran recently returned to action after spending several months out of action after wrist surgery.

He did appear at a house show in March before entering the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 35 and appearing at Axxess over ‘Mania weekend.

Now he will undoubtedly be linked with the newly-formed All Elite Wrestling, which has already acquired Chris Jericho and PAC.

Former WWE Champion Dean Ambrose left Vince McMahon’s organisation last week after a final appearance on Monday Night Raw.

And back in February Tye Dillinger announced he had requested his release from his contract.

WWE confirmed soon after he had left.
