Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk next big-money target for sportswear giant Puma

The Liverpool centre-back, 27, has become a global star since arriving at Anfield last season and has put himself in the frame for a lucrative deal.

Puma landed a £650million kit deal with Manchester City last week and are looking for players with the right profile for boot contracts.

Van Dijk usually uses Nike and wore their boots when he impressed in last weekend’s goalless draw with Everton.

But his status as one of Europe’s finest defenders has sparked interest from companies who have seen his branding appeal.

Players can earn upward of £1million for boot deals, with Van Dijk now one of the stars of the Premier League following his £75million move from Southampton.

And targeting him is part of Puma's strategy as one of the top manufacturers, with Sergio Aguero among the Prem heavyweights already in their stable.

Teaming up with champions City was a massive coup for the German company, with Pep Guardiola also seen wearing their boots in training this season.
