Leon Bailey's dad claims Chelsea have made enquiry after lack of Leverkusen games

Craig Butler, who is Bailey’s step-father, says the Blues have enquired about the Jamaican in the hope of luring him to Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old was a key player for the German side last season, scoring 12 goals in 34 appearances.

But he has struggled for regular action this term, scoring just once in 16 games – with half of those appearances coming from the bench.

Whether life improves under new boss Peter Bosz, who replaced Heiko Herrlich at Christmas, remains to be seen.

However, Hutlet claims Leverkusen better move quickly to rectify the situation, with Chelsea and others clubs asking about Bailey’s situation.

He told Sport Bild: “I am very happy that this change has come about. Leon did not develop under Heiko Herrlich.

“For Leon it is very important that he enjoys football. He lives alone in Germany, the family is in Jamaica, and if Leon does not have fun, it kills him.

“Top clubs have come forward, such as Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Roma.

“In recent months they have been surprised that Leon plays so seldom, wondering why a top league player like him is suddenly sitting on the bench.”
