Juventus lining up shock transfer bid for Man City outcast Riyad Mahrez

The Etihad winger has started just 11 league matches this season following his £60million move from Leicester in July.

Algeria international Mahrez has helped Pep Guardiola's side win the Carabao Cup and keep their Quadruple dreams alive.

However the 28-year-old has mostly been used as a substitute in the face of competition from Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane.

The last time he played the full 90 minutes in the league came in the first week of December in a 2-1 victory at Watford.

Guardiola was even forced to apologise to the winger for a lack of action when he said: "He is a guy we are happy with, but unfortunately I am not kind with him, in the fact I cannot give him the minutes he deserves.

"So I’m sorry, that’s all I can say."

Serie A Italian champions Juve tried to sign Mahrez from Leicester two summers ago.

And reports in both Italy and Algeria claim the Turin giants will make a fresh bid for France-born Mahrez this summer.

They are said to be planning to offer Brazilian winger Douglas Costa in part exchange.

Costa, 28, starred for Bayern Munich before joining Juve for £35m last year.

However reigning Premier League champs City will likely resist the Italians' attempt to poach Mahrez.

The wideman, who inspired Leicester to the 2015 title, is under contract at the Eithad until 2023.
