Jose Mourinho adamant he had nothing to do with Jorge Mendes' statement saying he is happy at Man Utd

Super agent Mendes' release last week insisted his client will stay at Old Trafford despite his position coming under constant and intense scrutiny.

But speaking ahead of United's Champions League clash against Valencia tomorrow night, Mourinho distanced himself from his agent.

Quizzed about the statement, Mourinho said: "I have nothing to do with the statement. It is Jorge's statement, not my statement.

"I didn't know [it was coming] and I don't care about it."

Mendes, who also looks after Cristiano Ronaldo and David De Gea, said in his original statement: "There have been more rumours of Jose Mourinho leaving Manchester United.

"It’s totally untrue. Jose is very happy at the club and the club is very happy with him.

"He has a long-term contract with Manchester United and is fully committed to the club in building a solid winning project."

Mourinho – who SunSport told you has been given the green light to move for Toby Alderweireld next month – did back up his commitment to United though.

He added: "There is a perception all over the world that the fans care more about the club than the professionals. That is totally wrong. Nobody in Manchester or connected with Manchester cares more about the club than myself."

Mourinho has faced criticism for his style of play, United's lowly league position and his tempestuous relationship with his players.

Reports claim Paul Pogba is set to hold talks with Mourinho after being "shocked" at being dropped in the past two games.

And United chiefs look to be lining up Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino as a possible Mourinho replacement – but it will cost them £40m.
