Inter Milan fan dies after night of violence and racism storm at San Siro against Napoli

The Nerazzurri had a jam-packed house at the San Siro for the Boxing Day showdown.

However, one supporter failed to make it home to his family after reportedly being hit by a vehicle outside of the ground.

Italian journalist Ciro Pellegrino broke the news on Twitter, saying: “Inter fan died yesterday hit by a vehicle outside the stadium. And I think the discussion on rest ends here.”

Inter defeated Napoli 1-0 to close the gap on the second-placed outfit but it was events off the field that attracted the headlines.

Visiting boss Carlo Ancelotti asked for play to be suspended on three separate occasions as his defender Kalidou Koulibaly, a target for Manchester United, was subjected to monkey chants throughout from the terraces.

The Italian said his players would walk off the pitch next time and would be willing take whatever punishment comes their way.

Koulibaly, who was sent off during the game for two bookings, posted a tweet after the game.

He wrote: “I'm sorry for the defeat and above all to have left my brothers! But I'm proud of the color of my skin. To be a French, Senegalese, Neapolitan: man.”

Ancelotti said: “I asked the referee for information on the red cards and nothing else.

“Those incidents rather decided the match, as we had done very well in the second half and were pushing hard.

“There was a strange atmosphere, as we asked three times for play to be suspended; they had announcements with the speaker three times.

“Koulibaly was certainly irritable. Usually, he is very calm and professional, but he was subjected to monkey noises throughout the game.

“We asked three times for some action to be taken, but the match continued. We keep being told play can be halted, but when? After four or five announcements?

“Maybe we have to take matters into our own hands next time and stop play ourselves. They'll probably make us lose the game if we walk off, but we are prepared to do it. It's not good for Italian football, seeing this.”

The night began in violent fashion with angry clashes outside the stadium, believed to be where the death occurred pre-match.

Four Napoli supporters were stabbed with one rushed to hospital to treat an abdominal wound.

And it was during this melee when the Inter fan was struck by the car. He was also immediately taken to hospital but medics have been unable to save him, according to the reports from Italy.

Two people, described as Inter Ultras, are believed to have been arrested following the disgusting incidents while police search for a third culprit.
