Guardiola apologises to Swansea after dodgy decisions gift Man City FA Cup semi-final spot

PEP GUARDIOLA apologised to Swansea after Manchester City grabbed an FA Cup semi-final spot with a dodgy penalty and an offside winner.

The City boss was full of praise for his battling stars after they fought back from 2-0 down to keep their quadruple dreams alive.

And he admitted that the absence of VAR cameras at the Liberty Stadium had played a part in helping his team’s dramatic late comeback.

He said: “If it was not a penalty and if our third goal was offside, then I am sorry.

“But you have to ask the authorities why VAR is not here today. We asked for it at the start of the season but we haven’t got it.

“They have it all around Europe but here they have it in some games and not in others and you have to ask why that is the case.

“I don’t like to lose when the decisions are wrong and the referees must be helped. It’s better to take three minutes to get the decision right than ask the referee to make an instant decision.

“But if you look at this game you will see that we played incredibly well. The amount of actions, crosses and shots and had – we deserved to win this game by far.”

Swansea boss Graham Potter said: “The players are disappointed because they feel a couple of decisions haven’t gone our way.

“I don’t know if Raheem Sterling went down too easily for their penalty but Cameron Carter-Vickers thought he’d got the ball.

“I’d like to think that everyone needs to have VAR in the later stages of this competition but that’s not my decision and I won’t let it detract from the quality of our performance.”

A number of supporters ran onto the pitch at the final whistle and one fan was hustled away by stewards after he appeared to confront City sub Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Guardiola said: “That has happened a few times lately and maybe one day something will happen that we don’t want.

“It’s not nice but nothing happened at the end and it’s not the time to have more stewards.”
