Conor McGregor sued more than £11,000 by man whose phone he 'smashed and stole' in Miami

CONOR MCGREGOR is being sued for more than £11,000 by the man whose phone he was accused of smashing.

Miami-Dade County court records showed that 22-year-old Ahmed Abdirzak filed a lawsuit on Thursday seeking in excess of $15,000 (£11,340).

Abdirzak accused 30-year-old MMA star McGregor of battery, assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

McGregor, 30, is in the US with his family celebrating his mum Margaret's 60th birthday.

He was charged with strong-arm robbery and misdemeanour criminal mischief, the Miami Beach Police Department said.

McGregor was released Monday night after posting a $12,500 (£9,450) bond.

He released a short statement after he was bailed vowing to continue to work on his "patience" while declaring his admiration for his supporters.

He said: "Patience in this world is a virtue I continue to work on. I love my fans dearly. Thank you all."

Miami Beach police say McGregor was leaving the Fontainebleau Miami Beach early Monday morning when Abdirzak attempted to take a picture of McGregor.

Police say McGregor slapped the phone out of Abdirzak's hand and then stomped on it several times.

Investigators say McGregor then grabbed the phone and left the area.

McGregor was later arrested on robbery and criminal mischief charges.

McGregor's criminal defense attorney called the lawsuit "a quick effort seeking a payday."
