Brave Sevilla boss Joaquin Caparros reveals he is battling chronic leukaemia but vows to soldier on in charge
SEVILLA coach Joaquin Caparros has revealed that he has been diagnosed with chronic leukaemia.
The 63-year-old made the announcement in the post-match press conference after the 2-0 win at Real Valladolid, but insisted he will remain in charge.
In quotes reported by his club's official Twitter feed, Caparros said: "It doesn't impede my work.
"I am going about my daily life – on a day to day level, for training. I want to enjoy my work and I want to thank the players and the chairman.
"I am not receiving any treatment – everyone can be assured that I am not receiving any treatment.
"For that reason I want to enjoy the opportunity the chairman and the board have given me.
"I'm more determined than ever.

"What I do want to say is that I won't talk about the subject more.
"But I want to make sure everyone remains calm."
Caparros was appointed as Sevilla's director of football last May, and also assumed the role of caretaker head coach in March following the dismissal of Pablo Machin.
Sevilla are currently fifth in La Liga after four wins in their last five games and are just a point behind Getafe in the chase for the top four Champions League places.
The club knocked Manchester United out of last season's Champions League and former transfer wizard Monchi recently returned from AS Roma after 18 months in Serie A.
In May 2017 Sevilla boss Eduardo Berizzo revealed he was battling prostate cancer and received treatment, before being fired six months later.
