Sankhare is now "unavailable for selection" at the Ligue 1 giants and is thought to be out for a number of weeks.

A number of football stars have taken to undergoing extensive hair transplant treatment, including Wayne Rooney and more recently David Silva.

But beard implants? That's a new one…

According to top London hair centre the Wimpole Clinic, possible side-effects of beard implants include tenderness and swelling on the face.

The can be more serious consequences however such as infection and severe reactions.

The clinic's website states: "If you are experiencing other side-effects or physical reactions you are concerned about, this may be a reaction to having the surgery itself.

"Those who experience vomiting or heavy fatigue after the surgery should contact their surgeon or GP straight away for guidance.

"However in most cases side-effects such as these are not present.

"As with any procedure there is also the potential risk of infection.

"If you experience any pain, sensitivity or persistent swelling combined with a fever then you should seek medical attention as soon as possible."

However, the Senegalese star, 29 – who was once on the books of Paris Saint-Germain – has some serious competition for the most bizarre injury ever award.

Then-West Ham star Enner Valencia broke his big toe after dropping a mug of tea on his foot, while Richard Wright arguably beat that.

The ex-Everton man was going through his pre-match warm up before slipping on a "NOT IN USE" sign.
