Barcelona sensation Ansu Fati cleared to play for Spain after getting passport – The Sun

BARCELONA sensation Ansu Fati has been cleared to play for Spain after being granted a passport.

The 16-year-old star has burst onto the footballing scene this season and is eligible to play for Spain, Portugal of Guinea-Bissau.

But Fati now appears certain to be a Spain star of the future after being granted a passport.

The whizkid could be part of the Spanish squad for the Under-17 World Cup in Brazil later this year.

Fati was born in Guinea-Bissau in 2002, but emigrated to Spain at the age of six-years-old.

Last week, national team boss Robert Moreno admitted they were looking at getting Fati a Spanish passport to tie him down for the future.

Now it would appear they have been successful – which is bad news for Portugal, who were also hoping to steal him away.

MESSI 2.0?

Fati was eligible to play for Portugal through his father, who left the family to work there in 2002 – when his wife was pregnant with Ansu.

But the Barcelona hotshot has been named in the longlist for Spain's Under-17s World Cup squad – and is almost certain to make the 23-man final squad.

Fati is widely considered as the heir to Lionel Messi's throne at Nou Camp – and already has an £88.6million release clause in his contract, such is his importance to the club.

The teenager became Barca's youngest-ever debutant earlier this season – before becoming their youngest-ever goalscorer in the game against Osasuna.
