Aston Villa to step up transfer talks for Tyrone Mings with Bournemouth after stunning loan spell

ASTON VILLA are to step up talks with Bournemouth over a £15million move for Tyrone Mings, according to reports.

The defender, who was a big part of Villa's successful promotion campaign while on loan from the Cherries last season, has landed back in the UK after his summer holiday.

And Dean Smith now sees it as the perfect time to ramp up his side's bid to land the 26-year-old defender on a permanent deal, say the Birmingham Mail.

Mings also became a big hit with the Villa fans and a move to the club would be popular with supporters ahead of their first campaign in the Prem since 2016.

Smith, along with club chief executive Christian Purslow and sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch, had hoped to have the deal sorted by now.

But Villa and Bournemouth are said to still be some way apart in their valuations for Mings, who joined the claret on blues on loan in January and has a contract with Eddie Howe's side until 2022.

Smith can take encouragement from the £3m capture of Kortney Hause last week though after his impressive loan spell.

The 23-year-old defender made 12 appearances for Villa and is their third signing since promotion was confirmed in the play-off final win over Derby.

Smith's side broke their transfer record by signing Club Brugge striker Wesley for £22.5m and Anwar El Ghazi for £8m.

Mings, who made 15 Championship appearances last season, has credited John Terry with helping him out.

Speaking to SunSport of his relationship with the Chelsea legend and Villa No 2, Mings said: "His overriding comment to me is: ‘Go through the game without being seen'. He tells me that a lot.

"John was a fantastic centre-back. A lot of people would put him in their all-time Premier League XI.

"I knew he was part of the coaching staff here, I'd spoken to him previously, before he was even at Villa.

"When I knew that there was a chance I could come here and learn from someone like that, in my own position, I couldn’t turn it down."
