Arsenal plan summer clear-out with Ozil and Mkhitaryan among at least five senior stars leaving Emirates

ARSENAL are planning on a major summer overhaul of their squad – with Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan among at least five senior stars they want out of the club.

Unai Emery wants to make major changes to his group after deciding the squad he inherited from Arsene Wenger is not good enough for what he needs to deliver success.

The failure to clinch a top four finish in the Premier League this season has convinced him several current first team regulars at Arsenal are not up to the job.

And highly-paid stars Ozil and Mkhitaryan appear to be two of those he is looking to offload over the close season.

Ozil has flattered to deceive in recent months with moments of brilliance too often being thrown into the mix with spells where he goes missing in games.

Though the 30-year-old has taken up the challenge from Emery of being more committed and putting in a shift on the pitch, he has still done little to justify his £350,000-a-week wages.

GET TOUGH

With money expected to be tight for Emery to finance transfers ahead of next season, he wants to find a buyer for the World Cup winner and take a huge burden off the wage bill.

Mkhitaryan is another who has disappointed having failed to produce a sustained period of good form ever since he arrived in North London as part of the Alexis Sanchez swap deal with Manchester United in January 2018.

Emery is hoping a buyer can be found for the £180,000-a-week Armenian, as he prepares to get tough with his under-performing big-names.

He took the decision not to offer Danny Welbeck a new contract, and also had the final say on allowing Aaron Ramsey to leave on a free transfer to Juventus.

And there a more Emery wants to ease out of the door at the Emirates, with midfielder Mohamed Elneny being offered for sale along with defender Shkodran Mustafi.

The German international has never really adjusted to life in the Premier League following his £30million arrival from Valencia and is seen as too error-prone to remain in the defence.

Petr Cech's retirement releases more money from the wage bill, and Emery finally wants to push Carl Jenkinson out if a buyer can be found for the full-back.
