Arsenal fans take comfort in Liverpool’s incredible thrashing of Barcelona at Anfield

ARSENAL fans have managed to take some sort of comfort from Liverpool's thrashing of Barcelona last night.

The Gunners have often been on the receiving end of a thumping at Anfield having conceded 14 goals in their last four trips to Merseyside.

The most recent came in December when Unai Emery's side crashed to an embarrassing 5-1 defeat.

A year previous they left Anfield on the back of a 4-0 loss.

And in 2008, Arsenal were on the brink of qualifying for the Champions League semi-finals when Emmanuel Adebayor fired the visitors ahead with six minutes to play.

The Gunners ended up conceding twice and lost 4-2 to crash out of the competition.

Former boss Arsene Wenger was talking from experience when he was invited by beIN SPORTS ahead of Liverpool's 4-0 win over Barca.

He revealed: "Lets not forget they did not win the championship for 30 years but in Europe they do well. Why? Anfield.

"This is the most hated stadium in Europe in the return game. It is the only place you don't want to go is to Anfield because everything is special there."

Knowing Barcelona can also succumb to the same scoreline has put a few Arsenal fans at ease.

On Reddit, one supporter commented: "Losing 5-1 to Liverpool in Anfield doesn't seem as embarrassing as it did anymore."

Another said: "His speaking from experience, anyone remember the CL QF at Anfield in 2008?"

A third added: "Of course he'd know, we've been getting battered at Anfield for years."
