You Only Need One Coat of Pat McGrath's New Mascara — It's That Good

The concept of “doll lashes” has always freaked me out. Whenever a beauty brand describes a mascara as having this effect, that scene from Sex and the City where Stanford Blatch discovers that the guy he’s dating keeps a creepy doll collection on his bed always comes to mind.

However, Pat McGrath is a legend in the beauty industry, and the makeup artist behind my favorite recent runway makeup looks, like Valentino’s green Swarovski crystal-studded eyes and Versace’s super glowy skin and lips. So, when she announced that she was coming out with a new mascara that’ll give you “doll lashes,” it was major enough for me to get over my very random hang up. And thank god I did because it’s really, really good!

McGrath’s FetishEyes Mascara does a little bit of everything. The peptide-infused formula offers volume, length, and fullness without getting dry or flaky. Plus, it conditions lashes so they look soft and strong.

This isn’t the only mascara that McGrath has launched. She included one in her Dark Star Collection back in August 2017, but FetishEyes is the first standalone formula that’ll remain part of the brand’s permanent product lineup.

I was lucky enough to test out FetishEyes at the mascara’s launch event this month, and have been using it every day since I got my hands on one. The mascara does everything it promises and makes my lashes look just as dramatic as McGrath herself — all in a single coat. I was genuinely surprised at how lusciously long, fluffy, and dark my lashes are without having to layer on multiple coats. Bonus: They never get sticky or clumpy.

I’m also a fan of this mascara’s brush. The bristles are tightly packed together to ensure that they build volume and length on every single lash as you swipe them. Its spoolie is also a dead end instead of being tapered. In my personal experience, this stops excess mascara from sticking to the end of the spoolie when pulling it out of the tube. I’m all for wasting less product.

Priced at $28 a tube, it’s not exactly cheap enough to try “just for fun,” especially if you have a ride-or-die mascara that you’re perfectly content with. At least, that’s what I thought before I tried this one. But trust, one swipe will convert you. That’s why I’ll be restocking my sample once FetishEyes officially lands at patmcgrath.com on February 14th at 12 p.m. EST. If you’re impatient, you can pre-oder the guaranteed-to-sell-out mascara at sephora.com.
