Why Doesn't Prince Harry Consider Himself a Celebrity?

There’s no doubt that Prince Harry is one of the most popular members of the royal family. Ever since he was a baby, people have loved the redheaded prince, and have tracked his progress as he has grown from fun-loving boy to a husband and father.

More than ever, Prince Harry seems committed to being a family man and to provide a steady influence for his new son, Archie Harrison.

Still, some have wondered if these days, Prince Harry is more of a celebrity than a working member of the royal family. A recent interview with a royal family expert has shed some light on exactly how Prince Harry sees himself.

What does Prince Harry do?

When Princess Diana died in a tragic car accident in 1997, her youngest son, Prince Harry, was only twelve years old. The young boy quickly found his whole world turned upside down, and the loss of his mother affected him in very profound ways.

As he grew older, Prince Harry became known as the “troublemaker” prince, a party animal who was often seen at the hottest clubs and most popular restaurants.

As he matured, Prince Harry dedicated his time to serving in the Royal Military. He slowly started getting more involved with charitable efforts, included the Invictus Foundation and Walking With The Wounded.

It was around that time, in 2016, that he first met American actress Meghan Markle. The two quickly bonded over their mutual love of doing good in the world, and they were married in May 2018. Since his marriage to Markle, Prince Harry has been more popular than ever, regularly making front-page headlines all around the world. He has fully embraced his life as a working royal and regularly appears at public events.

What does Prince Harry consider himself?

In spite of his extreme popularity, Prince Harry prefers to think of himself as a regular member of the royal family.

A recent interview with a royal family expert claims that Prince Harry had opened up to her just before his marriage to Meghan Markle. In the conversation, Prince Harry is said to have stated that there’s a definable difference between being a royal and being a celebrity. In his mind, a royal’s job is to do their duty to queen and country, while a celebrity is someone who is acknowledged for a talent that they have.

Supposedly, Prince Harry told the expert that he never wants to cross that line into becoming a celebrity. Still, it certainly seems that Prince Harry has definitely become more of a celebrity than what he initially intended to be.

The United States views Prince Harry as a celebrity

Celebrity culture is different in various countries, and the United States has many celebrities that are famous for no definable reason. The world of reality TV has created many celebrities that are famous just for being featured on television and in the headlines, and by that standard, Prince Harry definitely qualifies. After all, he’s on the cover of tabloid magazines every day in the U.S., and entertainment websites constantly report on his every move.

It seems that whether or not Prince Harry believes himself to be a celebrity, he has certainly become one.

The royal family is wary of celebrity culture

More recent stories lend weight to the idea that the royal family has a true disdain for celebrities. Supposedly, Prince Philip, the queen’s husband, advised Prince Harry against marrying Meghan Markle, because her occupation as an actress wasn’t seen to be a fitting one. “One steps out with actresses, one doesn’t marry them,” Prince Philip reportedly told his grandson.

Whether or not that story is true, there’s little doubt that the royal family prefers to keep their private life out of the spotlight. Their desire for privacy is contrary to how celebrity culture works, but they will probably continue to do things their own way – even with Prince Harry redefining how the world looks at the royal family.
