British Vogue has revealed the biggest fashion trends for this season – and they are not for the faint-hearted.

The fashion bible has revealed which of the biggest trends from the Spring/Summer 2019 designer collections will trickle down to the fashion-conscious shopper over the coming months – with a quirky list including Bermuda shorts, crochet, tie-dye and a lot of beige.

Vogue said: ‘Optimistic, fun and slightly eccentric, Spring’s best collections balance function with all out fantasy and are guaranteed to make you feel good.’

Emilia Wickstead sent models wearing bows down the catwalk during her Spring Summer 2019 show – and Vogue has now declared the accessory one of the biggest trends of the year

Vogue’s top five trends for SS19

1. The Colour – Beige

A surprise hit on the Spring/Summer catwalks, beige was featured by all of the top designers – and the trick to working it in 2019 is to wear it head-to-toe.

Riccardo Tisci at his first show for Burberry featured dozens of shades of beige for the British brand’s classic trench coat, but other designers also unexpectedly featured the ‘stick of butter’ look, as coined by Man Repeller.

Kendall Jenner, 22, wore head to toe beige as she strutted down Burberry’s catwalk

2. The Print – Tie-Dye

Once the realm of hippies and small children, tie dye has made a triumphant return to the catwalks. Prada, Proenza Schouler, Stella McCartney and R13  all featured tie dye clothing on the catwalk and the high street is already making copies.

Vogue says: ‘Every trend deserves a second chance. Funky shapes and lurid shades are out; controlled bursts of colour coupled with fabrics that hold their shape are in.’

3. The Dress – Crochet

A perennial favourite, crochet has become more structured, tougher, and downright saucier in its latest incarnation.

Everyone from Chanel to Louis Vuitton and Dolce and Gabbana send models down the runway in the new constructed styles.

Jennifer Connelly was the picture of elegance at the premiere of Alita: Battle Angel at the Odeon in London’s Leicester Square last night. The actress, 48, donned a white minidress in  crochet with balloon sleeves and structured shoulders

4. The Detail – Bows

It’s a chicken and an egg situation – did Royalty inspire the catwalk or did the catwalk inspire royalty? The Duchess of Cambridge turned heads back in September when she attended an event with a large black velvet bow wrapped around her ponytail.

The Duchess of Cambridge had her hair tied back in a low ponytail secured with a new accessory – a plush velvet bow

But far from throwing it back to the reign of the eighties Sloane Ranger, Kate Middleton was actually bang on trend.

Designer Emilia Wickstead featured double bow ponytails on the Spring Summer catwalks during London Fashion Week in September. Kate has often worn one of the designers ensembles, and now Vogue has named bows everywhere as one of the top trends to look out for this S/S.

5. The Piece – Bermuda Shorts

A grown up and fashion forward take on the bicycle shorts trend beloved of Instagram celebrities and Kardashians.

Vogue says: ‘How to take your shorts this spring? Knee-length, slimline and in a sumptuously decadant fabric.’

It recommends a pair of black leather shorts which cost £2,095 from Bottega Veneta or, for a slightly cheaper option, a pair of wool and silk shorts costing £169 from Boss.
