UK primary school worker slammed over ‘sickening’ New Zealand shooting comment
A primary school dinner lady has been slammed after a "disgusting" comment relating to the New Zealand terror attack was posted from her Facebook account.
Commenting under the name Kirsty Barrass Siviter – who has been identified as a dinner lady at Shaw Wood Academy in Doncaster – the user writes: "Oh how the tables have turned, how does it feel being on the receiving end" beneath an article about the shooting.
Head teacher Jo Campbell has since released a statement condemning the comment, saying "it is no way reflective of our school" and that the "appropriate authorities" have been contacted.
One Facebook user said: "Freedom of speech or not it’s sickening how people seem to think it’s okay to post awful comments.
"Think of their friends and families, aren’t they going through enough pain?"
Another described her conduct as "totally disgusting behaviour" while one simply said "sack her".
One person added: "Disgusting to see people with such views and comments about the deaths of innocent people who died."
In a statement released on the school’s website Ms Campbell thanked members of the public for contacting the academy about the "totally unacceptable" comment.
She said: "I would like to reassure you that I, our staff and our governors share your abhorrence at the content of the Facebook post and that it is no way reflective of our school or the community it serves.
"The appropriate authorities have been contacted and we are taking all steps required to comply with our legal obligations.
"Due to data protection law and employment law process no further statement will be possible.
"The welfare and safety of our children is our paramount concern and we thank you for taking the time to bring this matter to our attention."
The New Zealand shootings, which claimed the lives of 50 people and injured 50 others, were carried out at two mosques in the city of Christchurch on Friday.
The alleged perpetrator, 28-year-old Australian white supremacist Brenton Tarrant, has been charged with murder.
