Sarah Brightman says everyone can wear a tiara

Tiaras may typically be reserved for the Meghan Markles and Paris Hiltons of the world, but famous soprano Sarah Brightman — who’s made performing in sparkling headwear her signature — thinks more people should try one on for size.

“It’s interesting: People usually only go so far as to think of a princess or a queen or prom,” Brightman, 58, told Page Six Style. “But actually, in a way, the tiara symbolizes the spiritual side of us. I’ve always enjoyed wearing the tiara in all its different forms, because it’s sort of an elongation of the spirit. It’s an incredibly special thing. And everybody is special.”

Given that that Broadway legend has been sporting tiaras onstage for decades, it makes sense that she would own a whole closet full of them. “It’s more like a graveyard, really,” she joked.

The latest addition to her collection is part of Brightman’s new collaboration with Swarovski; she helped design it herself, and will wear it throughout her “HYMN” World Tour, which will head to North America at the end of January.

“I wanted something that was organic,” she said, gesturing toward the tiara’s detailing. “This could be the fan of a peacock’s tail, it could be an ocean wave, it could be a fern in the forest.”

Brightman’s tour costumes feature a total of over 600,000 Swarovski crystals, and the star also designed a capsule collection of jewelry and accessories for the Austrian brand, to be sold both online and at her shows. In lieu of the typical T-shirts and hoodies available at most concerts, Brightman’s fans will be able to pick up Swarovski-studded stacking bracelets ($65), crystal keychains ($35) and more.

“Having worn and used Swarovski crystals since the ’90s, there’s just something about the way the light shines off of them that adds dimension to everything,” she said.

And while belting out high notes for hours in a metal crown studded with thousands of stones takes some getting used to — “They are quite heavy,” the singer admitted — Brightman makes up for it with her surprising (and surprisingly comfy) choice of onstage footwear.

“I wear sparkly platform sneakers! You know, like the ones the Spice Girls used to wear,” she said with a laugh.
