Princess Beatrice has ditched eccentric headpieces for a stylish look

Loved-up Beatrice’s new look! How the princess finally got it right in two daring dresses with sheer panels from Self Portrait – after some infamous wedding fashion failures

  • Beatrice showed off her sartorial prowess in two ethereal dresses this weekend
  • The Princess, 30, wore a £370  Self-Portrait changing into green evening gown
  • She’s been mocked for eccentric looks, notably during the Cambridges’ wedding
  • Style expert Lucas Armitage said the new stylish look was ‘chic’ and ‘cool’

Princess Beatrice turned heads with two daring looks this weekend, as she joined her royal relatives to attend the wedding of Lady Gabriella Windsor at St George’s Chapel in Berkshire.

Beatrice, 30, wore a £370 high street dress as she made her first royal appearance with her boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi at the third royal wedding in less than a year on Saturday.

The daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson wore a white fascinator with a navy dress from Self Portrait as she stepped out with Edoardo, at Windsor Castle.

Celebrity stylist and fashion expert Lucas Armitage told Femail: ‘Princess Beatrice debuted a new more stylish look over the weekend, enlisting the eternally cool brand Self Portrait to take a new stylish step forward.

‘The brand is a go to for many A-listers including Kate who you will remember wore a white lace Self Portrait maxi that quickly became the dress of that summer.

‘Beatrice used a colour clash with the hat, to give her that eclectic feeling we know her for, but managed to stay chic.

The royal, who has been known for her fashion faux pas over the years, looked completely transformed from some of her infamously missed-the-mark looks as she joined her parents and boyfriend for the royal nuptials.

Pairing the semi-sheer dress with nude heels and a matching navy fascinator, Beatrice looked elegant as she left the church.

Keeping accessories to the minimum, she opted for simple drop earrings and muted make-up look.

Known for her love of fascinators, Beatrice’s still wore a headpiece, but the garment was somewhat toned down from her precious more eccentric looks.

The Philip Treacy hat Princess Beatrice wore to the royal wedding in 2011 became one of the day’s most discussed, and remembered sartorial moments of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding

Her bespoke Jess Collett headpiece perfectly complemented her dark navy lace dress, and was a world away from the plush pink ‘pretzel’ hat she wore to the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011.

She received widespread criticism for the Philip Treacey hat at the time.

The royal later spoke out about the publicity, telling Vogue magazine: ‘When everyone else was saying “you look ridiculous”, you have to have a sense of humour.’

Princess Beatrice, and her younger sister Princess Eugenie, were both widely mocked for their off-the-mark looks at William and Kate’s wedding (left). But this weekend Beatrice seemed to transform her look, opting for a stylish ethereal gown (right)

She has since been snapped in a variety of fascinating fascinators, and regularly causes a splash with her choice of headpiece.

Princess Beatrice has worn slightly less extravagant at the other two royal weddings in the past year.

She donned a green hairband style headpiece for Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding last May.

Showing she loved eccentric headpieces from a young age, Beatrice was only 16 when she wore this extravagant hat to the Christmas Day church service at Sandringham in 2005 (left). She wore another bold Philip Treacy piece to her cousin Peter Phillips wedding to Autumn Kelly in 2008 (right)

She paired the shirt maxi-dress with a matching green bag, which she clutched in one hand, while holding her boyfriend’s hand with the other.

Beatrice, who lives in New York, showed a flash of leg as the dress was translucent from the knee down, and chest up.

Both the Princess’s day and night look both had billowing lace sleeves, showing her style evolution into more effervescent and subtle looks.
