Pink Got Totally Candid About Having a Miscarriage When She Was 17

Never one to shy away from getting real about what’s going on in her life, Pink opened up about hating her body since she was 17 years old in her new song, “Happy.” Now, Pink’s sharing the story behind the lyrics and explained that it’s really about how she had a miscarriage when she was a teenager.

The song is on her new album, Hurts 2B Human, and starts with, “Since I was 17, I’ve always hated my body / and it feels like my body’s hated me.” While talking to USA Today, Pink said, “The reason I said [that] is because I’ve always had this very tomboy, very strong gymnast body, but actually at 17, I had a miscarriage.”

She added, “And I was going to have that child. But when that happens to a woman or a young girl, you feel like your body hates you and like your body is broken, and it’s not doing what it’s supposed to do.”

Pink, who now has a 2-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter, also shared that she had more than one miscarriage. “I’ve had several miscarriages since, so I think it’s important to talk about what you’re ashamed of, who you really are, and the painful [expletive],” she told the outlet.
