Optical illusions: Is it a car door or a beach? The picture that is confusing the internet

Remember the blue or gold lace bodycon dress that had everyone going crazy? Well, there’s a new optical illusion that’s been shared thousands of times on Twitter, which is blowing people’s minds. At first glance, it looks like a nighttime beach scene, however, it actually happens to be a damaged car door. After the image went viral on the social media site, one user – who goes by the screen name “nxyxm” – shared his thoughts on why some people may see a beach scene, while others notice the car door straight away.

Optical illusions: This picture has got the internet confusing a car door for a beach

Sharing the photo, he wrote: “If you can see a beach, ocean sky, rocks and stars then you are an artist, But its not a painting, it’s a lower part of the car gate which needs to be repaired.”

He added: “Focus on dark side you will see car gate thanks. It’s a car door, the seal panel under it is damaged, the bend in the door gives illusion of beach, the seal panel is damaged and scratched which gives illusion of water on the edge of beach.”

However, some people can’t seem to get their head around the image, insisting that it is a beach.

“I’ve looked at this picture every which way possible, the only thing I see is someone might be looking through a window at a beach. Maybe if we saw the whole picture of the car, then it’s possible we might get it,” one user wrote.

“I can’t see the reality. It’s like those hologram pictures from the 90s,” another added.

“I saw beach. Then, after about 10 mins of staring I thought the pic was looking down on a tinfoil wrapped dish on the ground, maybe at a picnic. But I still mostly see beach,” a third said.

“I really want to see the car door, but I just don’t,” another wrote, to which “nxyxm” advised “just rotate the photo”

Optical illusions involve visual deception. Due to the arrangement of images, effect of colors, impact of light source or other variable, a wide range of misleading visual effects can be seen from a photo. Not everyone experiences visual images in the same way and according to www.verywellming.com this reveals a lot about the working of the brain.

Another optical illusion was recently posted online.

The image, which was shared by engineer Dr Michelle Dickinson, initially showed a black and white image, however, when viewers stepped back from the photo or shook their head they could see a hidden image between the lines.

Michelle wrote alongside the photo: “You can only see this optical illusion if you shake your head.”

She then added: “I’m serious, alongside a cry-laughing emoji.”
