Missing Amy Gerard revealed passion for job before disappearing in Tenerife

Missing Amy Gerard spoke of her passion for her dream job in a promotional video shot before her disappearance.

Amy, who worked as a killer whale trainer, has not been seen since the early hours of Friday, when she was outside a pub in Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife.

The 28-year-old, from Cleethorpes in North East Lincolnshire, works with sealife at Loro Parque on the island.

Her family have grown increasingly worried and say her disappearance is out of character, GrimsbyLive reported.

Mum Julie Gerard, is now in Spain to help find her daughter – and says it is a "very emotional time" for the family.

Friends also took to social media with pleas to help find Amy, who has been described as "beautiful on the inside and outside" by those closest to her.

She completed a degree in animal behaviour science at the University of Lincoln in 2012 before working at marine parks in France and Mexico.

Most recently, she was working at Loro Parque, described as "the best zoo in the world" and had been a dolphin trainer before moving on to work with killer whales.

In a promotional video released by the park during her time working with dolphins, she speaks of her passion for animals and her job.

In the video, she said: "The most important thing about being a trainer is to love your animals.

"My job is not just when I come to work in the morning, it is to think about them all the time.

"We are always here with them so the most important thing is them and their wellbeing. It is to make sure that all the animals are happy and comfortable.

"The most important thing is to build your relationship with them and to have these positive relationships so it is not just about looking at the animals, it is to be there for them, to know them and to build those relationships.

"All of our animals are very different, they all have unique things about them and you learn to love these things about each and every animal."

Amy is described as being 117cm tall with curly blonde hair and blue eyes. She was last seen outside Molly Malone, an Irish bar in Puerto de la Cruz, at around 12.20am on Friday, November 30.

An online missing poster released by police on the Spanish island has been shared hundreds of times on social media and Julie appealed for people to share the information on it.

She said: "I’m out here with my daughter Chloe and her fiancé Mike. The police are conducting their investigation, which is ongoing.

"We’re asking that people share information on the poster and if they can contact Policia National with any information."

She added: "It’s not like my daughter to go missing and not contact us. We’re all very worried and need any new information. We want her found as soon as possible."

Sister Chloe said: "If you were in Puerto de la Cruz on Thursday, please think back if you saw anybody matching Amy’s description.

"We’re still searching and urging anyone with any information to come forward."

Among those making social media appeals to help find Amy was friend Tonette Smith, who posted: "She loves her work and is grounded, she is not flighty. Amy is beautiful inside and outside."

Another, Yasamin Naderi, posted: "Amy please come home safely. You are really really missed by lots of people. I hope you are ok and safe.

"Please just return. I know it’s not like you to do like this. We all want Amy safe, really not like Amy to do this."
