I’m madly in love with my girlfriend — but I’ve got a problem performing in bed
DEAR DEIDRE: I AM madly in love and in lust and my girlfriend’s the same over me, but I’ve got a problem performing in bed.
I’m 53 and I’ve found a new love after five years of being alone. I haven’t achieved an erection in months. I’ve tried all the drugs I can think of – Viagra, Levitra, generic Cialis canada – but none of them worked and I’m losing all hope.
I have Type 2 diabetes and I’m a stone and a half overweight. I suffer from stress and smoke 20 a day.
I don’t do any exercise now. I know that I should but I’m just too unfit.
My girlfriend is 50. She hasn’t complained about sub-standard sex but she’s been working away.
She’ll be back soon. I really can’t wait to see her but I’m scared that this problem will drive her away.
DEIDRE SAYS: These issues are among the most common causes of erectile dysfunction and they could have a much graver impact, perhaps cause a stroke.
Are you scared enough to put in the effort – to look after your diabetes, stop smoking and take exercise (gentle at first) to deal with the stress and lose weight?
Please see your GP for a health check and contact Diabetes UK for guidance (diabetes.org.uk, 0345 123 2399). My e-leaflet on Solving Erection Problems explains more.
