Homeless man found dying next to Houses of Parliament revolving door used by MPs

A homeless man was found dying next to an entrance to the Houses of Parliament.

The man, thought to be a 45-year-old Hungarian national, collapsed near the revolving doors used every day by MPs and Commons.

Emergency services rushed the man to hospital but medics were unable to save him.

Friends said he had recently found work as a kitchen assistant at Charing Cross station but had been sleeping rough for months.

Jamie Leigh, a friend, said: "This shouldn’t happen in our country."

"I blame Theresa May. People just walk past us and they are supposed to be going into that building to change the world that we live in," she told Huffington Post.

"He deserved a home. He needed a place where he could sleep.

"He came to London for a better life but he just had nowhere to go."

The friend became homeless after her relationship with her partner broke down. She too has been sleeping near the entrance to the parliamentary estate for weeks, it is reported.

The man’s cause of death is not yet known but police say it is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman for the Met Police said: "At around 11.30pm on December 18, we were alerted by officers from British Transport Police to a man collapsed in an underpass near to Westminster underground station.

"First aid was administered by the British Transport Police officers and the man was taken to a central London hospital, where he died in the early hours of December 19.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious."

The death has now been referred to the coroner.

In February, a council outreach worker found a homeless man dead yards from the doors of Parliament.

MPs said they "ashamed" after the discovery.
