Dad is selling the house Mum had inherited to fund his new partner’s kids – The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: ALL my father talks about is his new partner – and since Mum passed away three years ago he virtually ignores me.

I am a guy of 27 and have been saving up with my fiancée for a place of our own.

At one time Dad talked about giving me a half-share in a house Mum had inherited and rented out.

He’s now 55 and seems to have changed his mind and is selling the house to give the proceeds to his new partner’s kids.

That hurts, but my main concern now is my mother’s personal belongings. I would so like to have these and I worry they will just be thrown out. I don’t know how to approach my father to explain.

DEIDRE SAYS: You must have a whole jumble of feelings about your dad finding a new partner, especially if he has left you feeling shut out, but maybe he worries you will resent her.

Meet up for a chat, but stay calm and ask him about the house, whether you can expect a share of the proceeds and about your mother’s mementos.

His new partner may be glad for you to take them.
