Bella Hadid has a hard time getting respect from fellow models

Bella Hadid may be a world-famous supermodel, but she still struggles with fashion-industry haters.

Asked about the toughest part of her job during Vogue’s “73 Questions” video interview, the 22-year-old responded, “Probably gaining respect from my peers.”

As for advice she would give young aspiring models, Hadid said it’s all about attitude. “I think there’s a lot of pretty girls out there, so if you can’t be kind and work hard, there’s no reason to do it,” she said from atop a horse at her stable in California.

Bella’s sister Gigi Hadid, 23, has similarly spoken out about the guilt that comes from her privileged background. “There are so many girls who come [from] all over the world and work their asses off and send money home to their families like my mother did,” Gigi told Vogue Australia earlier this year. “I wanted to stand next to them backstage and for them to look at me and respect me and to know that it’s never about me trying to overshadow or take their place.”

The Hadids’ BFF and fellow catwalker Kendall Jenner was moved to issue a similar statement on social media after her comments about cherry-picking her modeling jobs went viral and upset many of her peers earlier this year. “I want to be clear. The respect that I have for my peers is immeasurable!” she tweeted in August.

Added Jenner, 23, “I get to experience first hand [sic] their tireless commitment, their work ethic, the endless days, the lack of sleep, separation from family and friends, stress of traveling, the toll on physical and mental health, yet they make it all look effortless and beautiful.”
